Operation Impact highlights kid volunteers right here in the Indiana community who prove that you are never too young to make an incredible difference by helping—and in the process have fun.
Here’s a look at some of the kids who do an awesome job improving their world.
To celebrate National Family Day, kids and their families volunteered to help the animal shelter. They decorated boxes that were put inside grocery stores for people to donate cat and dog food.
Players from Bloomington’s Junior Baseball League love playing baseball, and they wanted to make sure that everybody got a chance to join the game. Each member of the team buddies up with a kid who has a mental or physical disability and helps him or her play baseball.
Logan loves babies, so she decided to volunteer in the nursery at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church. She watches the toddlers while the parents attend church.
This spring, Sarah and Alee worked to make their community more beautiful. They spent an afternoon cleaning plots at the Willie Streeter Community Garden.
Students at Templeton Elementary found a great way to help their school and the environment through composting. The project keeps trash out of the landfills and raises money for the school.
Miss Meyers’ second grade class received a letter from a class in New Jersey asking them to spread the “don’t do drugs” message. The students made posters and wrote letters encouraging kids to say no to drugs then mailed them to schools all over the country.
Want to know the latest fashion? Brownie Troop 6 found out that helping others is this season’s hottest trend. When it came time to plan their annual community service project, the girls decided to do a fashion show to raise money for Jill’s House.
Ms. Gibson’s class knows how to make volunteering fun. The class divided into four teams and competed to see which team could donate the most to local charities. The team that collected the most got a prize, but everyone was a winner because they helped others.
You’re never too old to have a good time, and Brian wanted to make sure that the elderly residents at Beverly Shelter experienced some fun! Three times a week, Brian visits the senior citizens and plays games with them.
Students at Rogers Elementary wanted to celebrate diversity and all the things that make us special. They decorated tables that showed diversity by using construction paper, paint, and modge podge glue.
Students at Binford Elementary wanted to make sure that less fortunate kids had a happy holiday season. In December, the students took a field trip to a store and purchased gifts with the money they had collected throughout the school year.
Students at Clear Creek Elementary wanted to make sure that their school was safe and fun, so they volunteered for Project Peace. The volunteers help others to work out conflicts by talking instead of fighting.
Reading can be a fun hobby, and the kids at the WTIU Kids Fest wanted to share the excitement with others. These children volunteered by donating their old books to charity.
Have you ever wished upon a star? The Stonebelt Stargazers do it all the time. The Stonebelt Stargazers are a group of people who like learning about space and especially enjoy sharing their knowledge of the solar system with others.
The Edgewood Blaze Softball team wanted to help their neighbors after a tornado hit their area. On weekends, the team worked together to clean up yards and wooded areas that had been damaged by the tornado.
Fifth graders from Monroe County volunteered to clean up Bradford Woods. Bradford Woods is a nature preserve where people can enjoy camping or walking the trails.
There are heroes all around you, and during the Week of Caring, kids at the Banneker Center honored Bloomington’s finest. Volunteers decorated flowerpots, potted plants, and painted a mural for the workers.
