Getting to Know You

Occasionally on The Friday Zone we’ll meet a family who has come to Indiana from another country. They’ll tell us about their daily life, share some of their family traditions, and describe what life was like where they used to live. Let’s celebrate the diversity of our community in The Family Zone!

Meet one of our families:

Cramer family visits The Friday Zone. The Cramer family is made up of Peter, Cathy, Felix (age 8), and Lena (age 6). The Cramers call Bloomington home now, but before they moved to Indiana, they lived in Munich, Germany. Germany is a country in Europe that borders the North Sea and is next to France.

To teach us more about their German heritage, they brought in many of their favorite keepsakes such as a schültute. This cone shaped gift is given to children on their first day of school and it’s filled with goodies like crayons, pencils, and chocolate!

Felix and Lena showed us pictures of their favorite place in Munich, the wave pool. In Germany, it is very popular for families to pack picnics and visit the swimming pools, gardens, and mountains.

Even though there are more than 2 million people in Germany, it feels like a small village. Peter and Cathy told us how most people in Munich travel by foot instead of driving. People walk to the grocery store and the clothing shoppes and there are even places where cars are not allowed.

The Cramers also helped Echo say “goodbye” in German. “Auf Wiedersehen” from the Friday Zone!
