Occasionally on The Friday Zone we’ll meet a family who has come to Indiana from another country. They’ll tell us about their daily life, share some of their family traditions, and describe what life was like where they used to live. Let’s celebrate the diversity of our community in The Family Zone!

Meet a Family From Ghana

The Dakwas are from Ghana in Africa.

Kwame, the father, and Kwaku, the son, both wore batakari—traditional clothing from Ghana—when they visited us in The Friday Zone.

Kwaku said that he enjoys the Hi-life and Reggae music played in Ghana. He wishes that more radio stations in America played it, too!

Esther, the mother, and Kwame had families that spoke different languages. Ghana is a large country and people often speak English and another lanuage.

Accra is the capital of Ghana and is a busy city.
