The Great Outdoors

October 23, 2009

Here in Southern Indiana, the state’s largest park is just a short drive away. With just under 16,000 acres, Brown County State Park offers families a variety of outdoor options. Whether you enjoy camping or hiking, fishing or horseback riding, swimming or picnicking, Brown County State Park has it all - including some very mysterious mushrooms! Put your hiking boots on and come join us on a mushroom hunt during our Friday Zone Field Trip!

Elizabeth Tompkins, a Roving Naturalist with the City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department, is ready to “Speak for the Trees.” You’ll find out how to tell the age of a tree and how to identify a tree just by examining its leaves.

Former host Echo Shappell will show you how to handle a canoe, and Sheryl Mitchell, AKA “Scaly Tailz” will introduce you to some really cool reptiles.
