This is an exciting week for The Friday Zone. We will explore different types of cultural creative arts, even one that originated right here in the United States.
First we will look at the sport of martial arts, which comes from Asia. Steve, a martial arts instructor at the Monroe County Martial Arts, will be here with two of his students to show Echo and all of us a few moves that we can try out.
Then we will make some origami designs. Origami is the Japanese art of folding paper to make unique and interesting shapes and forms. If you have ever made a paper airplane, then you have already created some origami of your own. Echo will demonstrate with the help of Mary Sommer from Wonderlab what it takes to make some other types of origami as well.
We will then explore some interesting facts about Hip Hop Dance, which originated in New York City. Mariesha Griffon, an IU dance professor along with her two trusty sidekicks, Angel and Amber, will be here in The Zone to share some pretty cool moves with us. Then get ready to break it down as The Friday Zone, Echo, and the Hip Hop Gang show us a little routine!
We hope you join us as we prepare you to become cultural creative artists this week in The Friday Zone!
