Gelatin Jack-o-Lanterns
Ingredients You Will Need:
- 4 oranges
- 1 box (3 oz of gelatin)
- 4 cups whipping cream
- Food coloring
Supplies You Will Need:
- pumpkin carving kit
- Metal Spoon
- 3 bowls
- 4 Plastic Spoons (optional)
Instructions:
Makes 4 servings
- Draw a jack-o-lantern face on each orange with a pen, as well as what will become the top of the jack-o-lantern.
- Cut the top off the oranges like you would the top of a pumpkin. Make this large enough to scoop insides out.
- With a metal spoon, clean out the insides of the orange as best you can. It works well to use the metal spoon to loosen the insides from the outside peelings before emptying the orange. Save these orange “guts” in a bowl.
- In a separate bowl, make gelatin according to package, but do not refrigerate just yet.
- Add half of orange guts (the guts of 2 oranges) to gelatin mixture. Stir well. Refrigerate until set.
- Using pumpkin carving kit, carve out the jack-o-lantern face on the orange.
- Mix 4 cups of whipping cream in a bowl with 5 drops of food coloring. Chill.
- Once gelatin has chilled, remove gelatin AND colored whipping cream from refrigerator. Mix the whipping cream in with the gelatin desert, making small chunks of the gelatin mixture.
- Add the gelatin mixture to your 4 jack-o-lanterns.
- (Optional) Cut a hole through the center of the cut off orange top. Make it big enough to put a plastic spoon through it to resemble a pumpkin stem.
- Refrigerate Gelatin Jack-O-Lanterns until ready to serve.
- ENJOY!
