Wood Maze
EQUIPMENT NEEDED:
STEPS:
- Start with a piece of wood.
o Get pre-cut from hobby store or have parents cut it
o Board should be 7 X 7 inches
- Print attached pattern for maze design (or create one yourself)
- Use the maze pattern to determine where you’ll draw your lines on the wood.
- Draw the maze lines on the wood and also draw the matching numbers as seen in the pattern, so you can keep track of each line.
- Use sticks of balsa wood for your maze walls
o Balsa wood can be found in any craft store and is precut into strips
o What’s great about balsa is that it is very soft.
- Use scissors to cut the walls
- First cut the sticks to create 4 sides to the maze
- Next, cut out the pieces needed inside the maze, which are your walls.
o You’ll just use your pattern to measure each one.
- Once you cut a maze walls, pencil the number right onto each wall to keep track of each piece.
- Now you are ready to glue.
- Use wood glue
o You can get wood glue at a craft store.
o Wood glue is the best type because once it dries, you know your wood will stay in place.
- Go ahead and begin to add glue to the sides of the maze and place on wood
- Now add the glue to the numbered wall pieces and place on wood
- As you add each of the numbered pieces, test the distance by actually rolling your marble between the walls.
- Let the maze dry overnight before playing.
