Fleece Winter Wear

Items You’ll Need:

  • 1/2 yard of fleece
  • pattern
  • needle
  • thread
  • scissors
  • straight pins
  • ruler
  • chalk

Scarf:

  1. Open up the material on the longest side
  2. With a ruler and chalk, measure 8 1/2 inches from the fabric’s edge. This is your scarf’s width.
  3. Cut the scarf out.
  4. Cut the fringe on each end of the scarf. The fringe needs to be 3 inches long and each strip is about 1/2 inch wide. Use a ruler and chalk to measure 3 inches from the bottom and 1/2 inch from the side.

Mittens:

  1. Print out 2 copies of the mitten pattern.
  2. With your pattern, determine the size you need to cut.
  3. Double the material, so you can cut out the front and back of mitten at the same time. Make sure you put the good side of the fabric together when you cut.
  4. Pin the pattern to the fabric with straight pins. Pin the pattern both inside and outside of the dotted lines to keep the fabric straight when cutting.
  5. Cut out the mitten, then remove the pattern and pins from the fabric.
  6. Re-pin the fabric together for sewing.
  7. With a pen, draw a line on the fabric where you want to sew. Make this outline about a half-inch from the edge of mittens.
  8. Thread a needle and sew the mitten along the outline.
  9. Turn the mitten right side in, so that your stitches don’t show.
  10. Repeat steps 2-9 to create a mitten for your other hand.
