Recycled Picture Frames

Materials

  • Picture to put into the frame
  • Greeting Card, preferably 5×8 inches
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Buttons
  • Bottle Caps
  • Magazine Clippings
  • Puzzle Pieces
  • Ribbon or String

Steps

  1. Take the used greeting card, preferably a 5×8 inch card.
  2. Cut a rectangle in the top flap of the card. To do this you need to draw a rectangle on the back of the front flap, with about a 1-inch border from all edges of the card.
  3. Then with your triangle drawn, draw a line from one corner to the other to make an X.
  4. After your X is drawn, poke a hole where the X meets in the middle.
  5. Cut along the lines of the X from the hole in the middle to each corner.
  6. Fold flaps toward the inside or back of the card. Glue flaps down and cut off any excess pieces.
  7. Tape or glue two edges of the front and back of the card, leave one edge open, or if you want it to be able to stand alone, do not glue or tape edges.
  8. Start being creative!!
  9. Glue any of the above materials onto the 1-inch frame however you please. Make sure to cover the entire border of the card.
  10. Place your picture in the slot or glue your picture onto the inside of the top flap, picture facing out.
  11. You’re done! Show off your final product.

The three types of frames

Portrait

A portrait frame is taller than it is wide, so it needs a picture that is oriented vertically (up and down). The frame stands up by the back flap of the card, and a piece of ribbon or string is glued to the two bottom sides of the flaps and connected for support.

Landscape

A landscape frame is wider than it is tall, so it needs a picture that is oriented horizontally (side to side). The frame stands up by the back flap of the card, and a piece of ribbon or string is glued to the two bottom sides of the flaps and connected for support.

Wall

The third frame can be either a landscape or portrait frame but it has a piece of string or ribbon glued on the back so you can hang it on the wall.
